Information On Colonial’s Pipeline Inspection In Howard County

MD 108 Pipeline Maintenance
Colonial Pipeline Company owns and operates an underground interstate common carrier pipeline system that transports refined petroleum products that include gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, aviation kerosene, and military grade fuels from the Gulf Coast refineries to markets in the Southeast and along the Eastern Seaboard. Colonial Pipeline Company is regulated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) under 49 CFR Part 195 and inspected by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Periodically, we perform preventative maintenance on sections of our pipeline to ensure system integrity. We have identified a section of the pipeline in the middle of MD 108 (Old Annapolis Road) that requires such maintenance.

Scope of Work

Starting on Friday October 6, 2017 at 9:00pm, it will be necessary to close all lanes of MD 108 between Centre Park Drive/Phelps Luck Drive and Red Branch Road while we perform maintenance on this this segment. MD 108 will be re-opened by 5:00am Monday October 9, 2017. Please see map on reverse side for details.

What You Can Expect

The scope of this project will require the use of large equipment such as trackhoes and other support equipment. We will be performing the following: excavating and exposing the pipeline, removing the existing pipeline coating using sand blasting equipment, inspecting the pipeline, reapplying the protective coating and then backfilling the pipeline and restoring the roadway.

We recognize this project may cause some inconvenience for your family and neighborhood. Please be assured that this is necessary maintenance to maintain pipeline integrity. We appreciate your patience as we work as quickly and safely to complete this work.

Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation while we perform this work.
