- On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, Colonial employees visited Cooper Middle School and made a $5,000 donation to their STEM program.

STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math. STEM programs introduce students to these critical areas of study, and give them hands-on ways to solve real-world problems.
Cooper Middle School is a Title 1 school located less than 1,000 feet from Colonial's Line 17 and less than half a mile from Atlanta Junction.
They are a STEM-accredited school and Colonial plans to work with them to create a 6th grade curriculum. That curriculum will introduce concepts and practices Colonial uses to include safety, automation, cathodic protection, and fluid transfer, among others. The intent is to build on this 6th grade base and eventually produce lesson plans for 7th graders that integrate with the life science they learn, and then pre-engineering classes in 8th grade. This way, we can introduce what we do, and hopefully inspire the next generation of engineers - and maybe even a few pipeliners.
